China-optimised, Backbone Unstated
Optimised — but which backbone?
The vendor's product page says "optimised for all three carriers", "China-optimised routing" or "BGP smart routing", but does not say which backbone. That is a little better than plain 163 — at least one direction is usually taken seriously — but it is a long way from CN2 GIA. The only way to know which backbone it is, is to trace the return path on a test IP.
Who it suits
Anyone on a limited budget who wants to avoid plain 163. Ask for a test IP before paying.
How to verify it
"Optimised" has no verifiable definition. The only reliable check is a NextTrace on a test IP: 59.43 means Telecom GIA, 9929 means Unicom premium, 58453 means Mobile CMI — if none of them match, it is ordinary international transit.
Questions
So what exactly does "optimised" optimise?
Usually one of three things: a closer egress for one or two of the carriers, or an avoidance of a congested segment at peak. It does not mean end-to-end CN2, and it does not mean lower latency. When a vendor does not name the segments, assume an ordinary route.
How much better is it than 163?
The difference shows at peak hour. 163 is shared by everyone; an optimised line has at least one or two directions handled separately. But "handled separately" is still several price tiers away from Telecom GIA end to end.
